No Armenian trucks in Georgia - official

ArmInfo. There are no accumulations of Armenian vehicles on the Georgian side, while on the Russian side, about 500 trucks have been registered in the electronic queue for passage. This was reported to an ArmInfo correspondent by the customs attache of the Armenian Embassy in Russia, Vahan Hakobyan.

This morning, it was reported that, according to the North Ossetian Traffic Organization Center, 2,734 trucks have been registered in the electronic queue for passage. 847 of them have Armenian license plates.  According to the attache, the actual number in the queues is  approximately half the number registered in the electronic queue. About 500 of them are trucks from Armenia. But some of these vehicles are still on the way (on the territory of the Russian Federation) and have not reached the Lars checkpoint, Hakobyan specified.

The main reason for the congestion in Upper Lars is the congestion of the checkpoints due to the tourist season. "If the number of trucks passing through the checkpoint for this period is natural - about 1000-1200 trucks cross the border per day, then the number of cars this season doubles - up to 4 thousand cars per day", explained Hakobyan. The Georgian Military Highway is currently the only land route connecting Armenia with Russia. And the Kazbegi - Upper Lars checkpoint is the only currently functioning checkpoint on the land border of Georgia and Russia. On July 26, traffic through the Upper Lars checkpoint was prohibited for several hours due to a mudslide, later the road was opened.
