Armenia’s President appoints new Commander of Border Guard

YEREVAN, July 30. /ARKA/. Edgar Unanyan was appointed the new Commander of Armenia’s Border Guard, the branch of the National Security Service./pp

The appointment decree was signed by President Vahagn Khachaturyan based on a proposal from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan./pp

Previously, Colonel Unanyan served as the First Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the NSS. The former Commander of the Border Troops, Arman Maralchyan, was removed from office on April 10, 2024, reasons behind his dismissal undisclosed./pp

Notably, Maralchyan was dismissed the next day after the Azerbaijani forces caused an armed incident near the village of Tegh in the Syunik province, resulting in casualties. A criminal investigation was initiated but was closed in early May due to lack of evidence of a crime./p br br
