Preserving peace in the region is of key importance for Iran, newly elected IRI President Massoud Pezeshkian said at a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who travelled to Iran to attend Pezeshkian's inauguration ceremony./pp ‘The Iranian side also considers it necessary to resolve all issues through dialogue,’ Pezeshkian said in his talk with Pashinian in Tehran on Tuesday, the press service of the Armenian government reported./pp
The Iranian president stressed the importance of consistent efforts to establish peace and stability in the region./pp
He added that Tehran attaches importance to the constant development of relations with friendly Armenia in political, economic and humanitarian spheres./pp
Reaffirming the high-level agreements reached earlier, Pezeshkian said the centuries-old friendship, historical and cultural ties between the two nations are the basis for even greater development of bilateral cooperation./pp ‘We are ready to jointly continue our dialogue and further enrich the agenda of bilateral cooperation,’ the Iranian president said./pp
Pashinyan thanked Pezeshkian for the warm reception and once again congratulated him on his election as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Prime Minister stressed that the multilateral cooperation with Iran based on mutual respect and understanding is of great importance for Armenia./pp
Pashinyan presented the project of his government ‘Crossroads of Peace’ and its principles aimed at unblocking regional communications./pp
The Prime Minister highlighted the participation of the Iranian side in the construction of the North-South motorway, particularly the Agarak-Kajaran section. The steps undertaken towards the modernisation of the border crossing point at Armenia-Iran border were also highlighted./pp
The leaders of Armenia and Iran discussed a wide range of issues related to the strengthening of trade-economic ties, as well as touched upon issues related to the implementation of new joint programmes in the spheres of healthcare, new technologies, education, science and culture./pp
Pezeshkian noted that he was in Armenia on a private visit and kept warm impressions about it and its people. The interlocutors stressed the importance of high-level bilateral reciprocal visits. -0-/pp/p
