Ben Cardin criticizes West for remaining silent on Azerbaijan`s continued occupation of Armenian territories

ArmInfo. Senator Ben Cardin, Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, criticized the lack of protest from the United States and the West against the ongoing occupation of strategically important territories of Armenia by Azerbaijan.

"Without much exaggeration, Azerbaijan is now occupying a strategic part of Armenia. There have been no real protests about their control over the mountainous areas near Nagorno-Karabakh. This exposes Armenia to enormous risk in terms of creating a corridor that could divide the country or lead to the loss of its southern regions.  I don't see much fuss being made by the international community," Cardin said at a hearing of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.  It should be noted that Azerbaijan has occupied more then 200 square kilometers of Armenian territory in the Gegharkunik and Syunik regions of the country. The enemy's target was the resort town of Jermuk, where the Azerbaijani Armed Forces are currently stationed.  Furthermore, the enemy side is attempting to use force to establish an extraterritorial corridor through the Syunik region of Armenia, which would create a land connection between mainland Azerbaijan and its exclave of Nakhichevan.
