The fate of the valuable collections in the scientific and technical library remains uncertain

ArmInfo. The Armenian government has decided to close the scientific and technical library and put the building up for sale. In this regard, the fate of the valuable collections in the library remains uncertain. Anna Avetisyan, a member of the Mother Armenia opposition faction in the Yerevan Council of Elders, shared this information on her Facebook page.  According to her, the library building is unique in its ventilation system, specially designed for storing books. "Such a system cannot be built replicated elsewhere on such a large scale," Anna Avetisyan notes.

She also emphasized that the scientific and technical library plays an important role in the state's development. "This library stores GOSTs, patents, inventions and, importantly, about 22 million documents on the food industry, construction and other vital areas," Avetisyan writes. To recall that the scientific and technical library, which has existed for over 60 years, has been under the jurisdiction of the RA Ministry of Economy since 1991. In 2009, by a decree of the RA government, the library was included in the SNCO, losing its republican status. It should be noted that of the four branches of the library operating in Armenia (in Gyumri, Vanadzor, Kapan and Hrazdan), only the Gyumri branch may be preserved.
