Kyaramyan reminded the head of the ICRC mission about Azerbaijan`s serious violations of international humanitarian law

ArmInfo. On August 1, Argishti Kyaramyan, Chairman of the RA Investigative Committee, received Thierry Ribot, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Armenia, who is concluding his mission in Armenia.

As reported by the press service of the RA Investigative Committee, Kyaramyan spoke about the invaluable humanitarian mission of the ICRC, pointing out its significance  in addressing humanitarian problems that arise during military conflicts. In this regard, the Chairman of the IC recalled serious violations of international humanitarian law committed by the armed forces of Azerbaijan during the 44-day war and subsequent military aggressions. Karamyan expressed his gratitude to the ICRC for their efforts to mitigate the existing problems. He also emphasized Ribot's personal contribution to strengthening the relationship between ICRC and the RA Investigative Committee.

The head of the ICRC delegation expressed satisfaction with the strong cooperation with the Investigative Committee. He noted that one of the ICRC's objectives is to uphold international humanitarian law and provide methodological support for the effective investigation of violations of this law.

During the meeting, issues related to the work carried out with the relatives of individuals, whose whereabouts are unknown, the exchange of information about these persons, prompt response to mutually raised issues and the provision of due support were discussed. The parties emphasized the importance of fully clarifying the circumstances surrounding the capture of individuals and remaining consistent in protecting the rights of those in captivity. Argishti Kyaramyan expressed special gratitude to the ICRC for consistently respecting the fundamental rights of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan and ensuring their ability to communicate with their families. 

Touching upon the issues related to individuals, whose whereabouts are unknown, the head of the Investigative Committee noted that they are the subject of an investigation within the framework of a criminal case initiated in connection with the aggressive war unleashed by Azerbaijan and subsequent military actions, the commission of crimes against peace, human security and other war crimes. As a result of the investigations, it was possible to clarify the circumstances of the death, disappearance and capture of both military personnel and civilians.

Kyaramyan said that the Investigative Committee is ready to provide the necessary information to international partners.
