Yezidi genocide victims commemorated in Armenia

ArmInfo. Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan sent a message on the 10th anniversary of the genocide of the Yazidi people in Sinjar.

"Today we honor the memory of thousands of Yazidis who died before our eyes in the 21st century as a result of the genocide in Sinjar, and tens of thousands of Yazidis became refugees," he noted.

Simonyan emphasized that Armenia has raised the issue of crimes committed against the Yazidis in various international bodies for many years. In 2018, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia adopted a statement, and this year, with the introduction of amendments to the Law "On Holidays and Remembrance Days", August 3 in Armenia is celebrated as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Yazidi Genocide in Sinjar in 2014.

"I express my support to the Yazidis of Armenia and the whole world and assure that the Republic of Armenia, within the framework of its international capabilities, will continue to make every effort to prevent the repetition of such crimes against humanity," the speaker said in a statement.
