People began to question SRK's movie choices during that period, particularly after many criticised Ra One. In an interview, Khan talked about his relationship with his kids and how they once told him that he had no friends.
Shah Rukh Khan answered the question of whether he experiences fatherhood up close and personal with his kids in an interview with Filmfare. To this, the Raees star said that his children are much more grounded and controlled than he was. The environment at home hasn't led them to see themselves as special just because they are star kids. SRK stated that they haven't witnessed his successes but have seen him sad, frustrated at MCA, disturbed by a flop, and working tirelessly, especially during the challenges faced with Ra One.
Shah Rukh Khan said, "Like one day, I said, Let's call friends over, and they told me, 'You don't have friends, Papa'. The best thing about my children is that they have a sense of humour. So they make fun of my frailties. And because they have seen my frailties, they seem to be more in control of life."

SRK further revealed that he turns to them for advice. He consults Aryan Khan about his problems, and his son tells him to not get angry and let things pass. When he tells Suhana Khan that she's sad, she tells him to talk to her. However, Suhana would also tell him that she doesn't know what to say because he's too old for her conversations. But she is always ready to hug him. Shah Rukh stated that his wife Gauri Khan and his children are the only people he confides his frailties to. They are the only people in front of whom he can be happy, open, honest, shameless, and egoless.
