The Ombudsman and the UN representative in Armenia visited the Tavush region
ArmInfo. According to a statement from the Ombudsman's office, Anahit Manasyan, RA Human Rights Defender and Francoise Jacob, the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia paid a joint visit to Tavush region to assess the human rights situation and social problems in the area.
During the visit, meetings were also held with the Governor of the Tavush region, Hayk Galumyan, representatives of various public organizations and beneficiaries, as well as with children receiving alternative care, with foster families and the Armenian charity foundation "SOS Children's Villages".
Hayk Galumyan presented the problems of the region, which included socio-economic difficulties. During the discussions, issues related to the rights of women and children with disabilities, women's rights in employment and the rights of forcibly displaced persons were touched upon. Particular attention was given to the protection of the rights of residents in border areas. The Ombudsman emphasized that the UN is one of the key partners of the Human Rights Defender's Institute. She expressed confidence that their joint efforts will make it possible to implement various programs in the Tavush region aimed at improving the lives of the population.
As part of the visit, the Ombudsman and UN representatives also visited the Ijevan branch of Yerevan State University (YSU), where a meeting was held with representatives of various public organizations. In her speech, the Ombudsman noted that in Armenia, as in the rest of the world, women's rights are a relevant topic of discussion.
During the meeting, Anahit Manasyan committed to using the full range of tools within her mandate to address the issues identified during the visit.
