MP: Armenia is consistently strengthening relations with EU member states

ArmInfo. Armenia has been consistently strengthening its relations with  EU member states recently. The launch of the visa liberalization dialogue between Armenia and  the EU has been a pivotal moment for Armenia, giving a new boost to its stable interaction with the EU member states. Rustam Bakoyan, the Deputy Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs, highlighted this at the reception for a delegation led by Armin Muller, the Mayor of the German city of Naumburg, at the RA National Assembly on August 6.

According to the press service of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, during the meeting, Rustam Bakoyan discussed the rights violation of more than one hundred thousand Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh due to ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan. He presented  government programs aimed at supporting fellow citizens who were forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh. The Deputy Chairman of the Committee emphasized that Armenia counts on the support of international partners for the implementation of long-term projects.

Lilit Galstyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the "Armenia" opposition faction, participated in the meeting and noted that challenging times have come for Armenia since 2020. The visit of such a representative group to Armenia demonstrates that Armenians are not alone. She highly appreciated Naumburg's cooperation with the Armavir region of Armenia. When discussing  the security of the region and the issues facing Armenia, the deputy also raised the importance of supporting international partners in the return of internally displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh to their homeland.

The Deputy Chairman of the commission stated that in order to establish long-term peace and stability in the region, the Armenian government presented the "Crossroads of Peace" project. He highly appreciated Germany's role in the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and strengthening peace in the region.  As a representative of a national minority, Rustam Bakoyan noted that last January the German Bundestag adopted a resolution condemning the 2014 genocide in Sinjar, emphasizing that this step is of historical significance for the Yazidis. "Armenia and Germany have a long history of friendly relations. I attach great importance to the dynamic development of Armenian-German relations and cooperation in all areas," Rustam Bakoyan emphasized.

Naumburg Mayor Armin Muller expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and noted that mutual cooperation between the two countries is of key importance. He noted that Naumburg is actively cooperating with the city of Armavir, working on  implementing  experience exchange programs in various areas. Michael Schmidt, the Honorary Consul of Armenia in the Saxony-Anhalt region, reported that a number of meetings had taken place in Armenia and stressed that Saxony-Anhalt stands with the Armenian people.
