Russia not to introduce visas for CIS members

ArmInfo. There are currently no negotiations on tightening or loosening the visa regime in the CIS, including between Russia and other Commonwealth countries, Director of the First Department of the CIS Countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry Mikael Agasandyan told RIA Novosti.

"There is a visa-free regime in the CIS (with the exception of Turkmenistan), which is regulated by bilateral and multilateral agreements. Accordingly, introducing a visa regime would require at least revising these international treaties. Currently, negotiations are not being conducted on the unification platform either on tightening or, conversely, on loosening the current entry regime," Agasandyan said, answering the question of whether it is possible to introduce a visa regime for Russia with any CIS countries.

At the same time, he noted that the legal framework in this area is constantly being improved, including as a response to emerging challenges and threats.

At the same time, he emphasized that the Russian authorities are monitoring the challenges and threats in this area. "Thus, due to the growing number of attempts to illegally cross the border using forged documents, mandatory fingerprinting was introduced for all labor migrants, systemic measures are being taken to strengthen control over migration flows, and the relevant procedures are gradually being transferred to the digital plane," he noted.
