Toyota Century GRMN SUV: Production Plans Confirmed

Last year, Toyota introduced a one-off GRMN variant of the Century SUV. Now, Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda has confirmed that this high-performance model will enter production.

During a meeting with Century owners in China, Toyoda revealed that his own Century GRMN is currently the only one in existence. He expressed a desire to make this model available to a global audience, stating, “Our goal is to produce a GRMN model that can be enjoyed worldwide.”

The prototype GRMN SUV features a lowered stance, larger wheels, a distinctive bodykit, and MPV-style sliding rear doors. These elements are expected to carry over to the production model. However, details about potential performance upgrades or a new powertrain are not yet clear. The standard Century SUV currently offers a 3.5-liter V6 plug-in hybrid engine with 406 horsepower, while the Century saloon uses a 5.0-liter V8 hybrid with 425 horsepower. Toyoda did not specify if the GRMN SUV would use the V8 powertrain.

The GRMN variant will likely include performance enhancements, such as a revised chassis with updated suspension, steering, and brakes. It may also offer increased power. The standard Century SUV is equipped with an e-CVT gearbox and the E-Four Advanced AWD system.

Currently available only in Japan and China, the Century SUV is set to expand its global presence to compete with luxury rivals like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The Century GRMN SUV will directly challenge the Cullinan Black Badge, known for its sporty characteristics.
