Zakharova assures Baku understands that preserving the historical  memory of the Great Patriotic War is a sacred duty

ArmInfo.Moscow will aim to include the preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the Great Patriotic War on the agenda of the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations.  This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry on August 28 briefing, in response to a question from an Armenian journalist regarding the destruction of monuments to Soviet heroes of Armenian descent in Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijanis.

"We have called, we call, and we affirm that we will continue to carry out this work with both sides to include the preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the Great Patriotic War on the negotiating agenda of the Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization," she said.

According to her, this topic is regularly discussed in working contacts with both Baku and Yerevan. "We have expressed our principled position on the inadmissibility of the destruction of monuments to Soviet soldiers wherever this happens and we touch upon this topic every time. If you are interested, in particular, with representatives of Azerbaijan," Zakharova said.  "Baku understands and agrees that preserving the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War is the sacred duty of our countries," - the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry concluded.
