Another case of illegal drug trafficking using online platforms detected in Armenia
ArmInfo. Law enforcement agencies in Armenia have detected another case of illegal drug trafficking using online platforms. According to the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, on August 21, police officers stopped an Opel car on Rubinyants street in Yerevan.
The 43-year-old driver responded to an oral police inquiry about the presence of prohibited items by admitting that there were packages of drugs in the car. Subsequently, the man was taken to the police station, where he was detained on suspicion of committing a crime.
The investigation revealed that the man contacted a user of the Telegram application, whose identity has not yet been determined, and agreed to transfer packages of drugs to them. He placed the packages in various hiding spots in Yerevan and sent photographs of their locations. The 43-year-old man took the packages filled with marijuana and successfully sold at least one package illegally. During the preliminary investigation, the conducting body searched the apartment, car, and electronic networks. Photos of drug caches with specific coordinates were found on the alleged criminal's mobile phone. During the search of the Opel car, the investigator found and confiscated 25 packages of drugs, wrapped in tape, totaling 44.63 grams. With information from the digital search of the mobile phone, a search of the scene was conducted, leading to the discovery of a package containing yellow-green plant material wrapped in electrical tape and duct tape.
Examinations were ordered to determine the composition of the discovered masses, some of which have already confirmed that it is a drug of the "marijuana" type. The 43-year-old man has been charged under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 393 of the RA Criminal Code and has been placed under arrest as a preventive measure. The investigation is ongoing and urgent measures are being taken to identify his accomplice, uncover the entire chain of illegal drug trafficking, and identify the source of the drugs. The relevant police department has been instructed to conduct operational and investigative activities.
