Mohanlal finally breaks silence on Hema Committee Report, 'Everyone cannot be blamed...'
Established to investigate the challenges faced by women in the Malayalam film industry, the Hema Committee Report has uncovered serious issues like sexual harassment and unsafe working conditions. The findings have raised significant concern and prompted widespread discussions about the urgent need for industry reforms. In a surprising move following the release of the report, renowned actor Mohanlal, along with the entire executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), resigned from their positions. The report also accused some of the male committee members, prompting their resignation a few days later.
The mass resignation has shocked many and has further highlighted the critical problems identified in the report, leaving the future of the industry and the path to meaningful change in question. Several celebrities expressed their disappointment over Mohanlal's resignation and silence, given his position and stardom in the Malayalam film industry.
According to India Today, the Malayalam superstar made his first appearance in the media on August 31. Days after shocking everyone in the entertainment news world by resigning as the President of AMMA, Mohanlal finally made his media debut. In his statement, the Kandahar actor urged everyone not to focus solely on AMMA during the ongoing investigation. He requested that people refrain from destroying the Malayalam film industry.
In his statement, Mohanlal expressed his welcome for the Hema Committee Report and praised the government's decision to release it. However, the veteran star said that AMMA cannot answer all the questions and said the Malayalam film industry is a very hard-working industry. The Bro Daddy actor said, "Many people are involved in it. But everyone cannot be blamed for this. Those responsible will be punished, investigation is going on."
The Mollywood superstar stated that the members will cooperate in the investigation process, and they're here to set things right. Mohanlal also clarified that he is not aware of any such power group and is not a part of any, and further stated that he hasn't read the Hema Committee Report yet.
Meanwhile, earlier, actress Parvathy Thiruvothu strongly reacted to Mohanlal and other AMMA committee members' mass resignation. She called their move 'cowardly' and said how the onus now lies only on women to fight for their safety.
