YEREVAN, August 31. /ARKA/. The Armenian government announced that the agreement on joint activities, recently signed by the delimitation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan, will be sent to the Constitutional Court of Armenia for review./pp

Earlier on Friday, it was reported that the Armenian and Azerbaijani delimitation commissions had concluded work on finalizing the agreement, with the document being officially signed on August 30th. Both countries are now moving forward with the necessary internal procedures to formalize the agreement./pp

The Armenian government provided clarifications to state news agency Armenpress regarding the signed agreement, explaining that the document was signed through the exchange of original copies via diplomatic channels. The agreement will be officially published next Monday as part of the domestic ratification process. According to Armenian law, the agreement will first be submitted to the government for review, after which the ratification process in the National Assembly will begin. The document will be sent to the Constitutional Court to ensure its compliance with the Armenian Constitution. If the Constitutional Court approves it, the agreement will be presented to the National Assembly for ratification./pp

The key political content of the document was essentially disclosed in a press release following the commissions' meeting on April 19, 2024. The delay in publication was due to the need to synchronize the processes between the two countries./pp

As of July 1, the commissions had already exchanged several working versions and proposals for the agreement. However, additional time was needed to finalize and sign the document./pp

Regarding the next phase of border delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the April 19 press release indicated that after the agreement's approval, the sequence of delimiting the remaining border sections will be coordinated and the process will continue./pp

Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to the principle of delimitation based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration, which will be enshrined in the agreement./pp br/p
