BYD Xia Hybrid Luxury MPV Debuts at Chengdu Motor Show
Chinese automotive giant BYD has unveiled its latest minivan, the BYD Xia, at the Chengdu Motor Show. This new luxury MPV, measuring an impressive 5.1 meters in length, features BYD’s advanced fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid system, known for its enhanced fuel efficiency. Set to hit the market later this year, the BYD Xia will start at a competitive price of 300,000 yuan (approximately 42,300 USD or 36 lakh rupees).
The BYD Xia stands out with its substantial dimensions—5,145 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,805 mm in height—paired with a generous 3,045 mm wheelbase. This positions it as a strong contender in the luxury MPV segment, rivaling other premium models like Denza’s D9, the only other MPV under the BYD Group, which is slightly larger at 5,250 mm in length.
Aesthetically, the Xia MPV aligns with BYD’s contemporary design language, featuring a bold front fascia dominated by a large trapezoidal grille, sleek LED headlights, and a distinctive flat roofline. The vehicle is also equipped with rear sliding doors and a roof spoiler, while the rear is highlighted by a single, full-width LED taillight.
Under the hood, the BYD Xia is expected to feature the 1.5-liter turbocharged BYD472ZQB engine, delivering 115 kW (154 hp), paired with a 200 kW (268 hp) electric motor, potentially offering an all-wheel-drive configuration. Notably, the Xia boasts an all-electric range of 200 km, powered by BYD’s large LFP Blade battery, underscoring its efficiency and advanced hybrid technology.
In India, BYD currently offers the Atto 3 compact SUV and the Seal sedan. The company is also gearing up to launch the BYD M6, an upgraded version of the E6 electric MPV, marking another significant step in its expansion within the Indian market.
