Emergency: Ram Gopal Varma's comment on Kangana Ranaut's film about Indira Gandhi getting stalled exposes censor board's double standards
Emergency movie starring Kangana Ranaut was slated to release on September 6. However, as per reports, the film has been postponed. Emergency is a film about the dark chapter in Indian politics. Kangana Ranaut plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who declared state of emergency in 1975. Though the trailer received a positive reception, it ran in trouble with the Censor Board. The film is yet to get a green chit from the CBFC given its sensitive nature and that is why the delay in the release. The movie has also found itself in a controversy over its content that could allegedly hurt religious sentiments. Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma who is quite vocal on issues related to the film industry has commented on it.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Ram Gopal Varma has shared his views on Emergency starring Kangana Ranaut getting stalled from release. In a tongue-twister of sorts, Ram Gopal Varma commented that the the film being stopped from release is proof that Emergency hasn't stopped yet because the phase was all about curbing the freedom of expression. In another tweet, he wrote that when everyone including politicians can have an opinion on everything then why not filmmakers? His tweets have now taken up space on entertainment news.

Earlier, lyricist and poet Manoj Muntashir came out in support of the film and stated that the Sikhs who are protesting against the film's release should first watch the film and then make any judgements. In a video shared on social media, he also said, "The film shows the brutal assassination of Indira Gandhi. Are we supposed to believe she died in a road accident?" He mentioned that Indira Gandhi's assassination in the film should be taken in historical context and nothing more than that.
