Yerevan answers Baku`s call for dissolving EU mission in Armenia

ArmInfo. The activities of the EU mission in Armenia are a matter under the exclusive jurisdiction of Yerevan and Brussels, said Sarkis Khandanyan, head of the standing parliamentary committee on foreign relations, responding to Baku's call to stop the activities of the EU border mission in Armenia.

On September 1, Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, told journalists that "considering that the process [of border delimitation] between the two states is taking place in conditions of peace and mutual understanding, there is no need for the EU border mission to operate near the border of Azerbaijan from the Armenian side. It is time to stop the activities of this mission."

"How many, for how long and in what numbers EU observers should be present in Armenia - only we and the EU should decide. When a peace agreement is signed, when the delimitation process is completed, when peace reigns in the region, then perhaps there will be no need for monitoring. But this issue is not being discussed now, - Khandanyan noted.

As for the format of a possible signing of a peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku, according to Khandanyan, such an issue was not considered. Perhaps the document will be signed in a bilateral format, perhaps in the presence of a third partner country, he added.
