108 cases of West Nile fever confirmed in Armenia, Health Ministry takes action

YEREVAN, September 5. /ARKA/. Armenia has confirmed 108 laboratory-tested cases of West Nile fever, according to Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan. Speaking at a briefing on Thursday, Avanesyan emphasized that anti-epidemic measures and public awareness campaigns are being conducted nationwide, with weekly updates on the situation./pp

The current pace of decline in cases is unsatisfactory. We will continue to intensify our efforts over the next month to ensure a drop in infections as the season progresses, Avanesyan noted./pp

The health minister expressed concern over the spread and increasing activity of the disease. From the outset, Armenia has adapted and implemented testing protocols and treatment plans for the virus. Efforts are ongoing to prevent a rise in new cases./pp

In response to reports of three deaths in Armavir province linked to West Nile Fever, Avanesyan clarified that two fatalities have been confirmed, with further details expected to be released on Friday. Earlier, one death had been officially reported./pp

West Nile fever is a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes, particularly of the Culex species. The incubation period typically lasts between 2 to 6 days, and symptoms include headaches, muscle aches, fatigue, fever, nausea, and vomiting./pp

The elderly, individuals with cardiovascular conditions, chronic kidney diseases, cancer patients, and those with diabetes are particularly vulnerable./pp br/p
