YEREVAN, September 9. /ARKA/. Armenia’s National Assembly Speaker, Alen Simonyan, has stated that the country may withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), citing growing tensions with the alliance./pp

No one is ruling it out, and the reasons are well known. The CSTO itself is creating this situation, Simonyan told journalists at the parliament./pp

Simonyan criticized Russia's approach to Armenia, calling it a mistake to use threats in diplomatic discourse.nbsp;/pp

When they speak to us in the language of threats, do they think Armenians should fear that they’ll have Azerbaijan attack us? We’ve already experienced that while in the CSTO, and they pretended nothing was happening, Simonyan remarked./pp

In February 2024, Armenia announced a suspension of its membership in the CSTO and later stopped paying membership fees. In June, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hinted at the possibility of Armenia’s full withdrawal from the alliance, though Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan later clarified that the decision would be made independently by Armenian authorities./pp br/p
