Members of Basayev's gang convicted for the 2005 terrorist attack in Rostov-on-Don

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced members of the terrorist group "Jamaat" Najmudin Dudiev and Ibragim Donashev, who committed a terrorist attack in Chechnya in 2005, to 24 and 25 years in a penal colony with deprivation of military ranks. This was reported by a correspondent of "Izvestia" from the courtroom on September 24.

According to the case materials, in 2005, Dudiev and Donashev in the company of other members of the gang led by terrorist Shamil Basayev kidnapped and killed a Russian. They later hid the man's corpse in a car packed with explosives and parked near residential buildings. In order to attract the attention of the police, one of the members of the group shot at the car and then detonated the explosive device during investigative and operational measures.

Thus, as a result of the terrorist act, 15 people were killed, 36 were injured and hospitalized.

Seven criminal cases were opened against the detainees. Dudiev and Donashev were sentenced to 24 and 25 years of strict regime respectively.

Earlier, on September 16, the Southern District Military Court sentenced another member of Basayev's gang, convicted of attempting to kill servicemen, to 16 years in prison. In February 2000, he took part in an attack on soldiers of the sixth company of the 104th regiment of the 76th Pskov division of the Airborne Troops, which resulted in the deaths of 84 people.

Shamil Basayev - terrorist, one of the leaders of the Chechen separatist movement. He participated in the fighting in Abkhazia (1992-1993) and Chechnya (1994-1996). He organized a terrorist attack in Budennovsk and was liquidated by security forces in 2006 during a special operation in Ingushetia.
