Armenia intends to triple solar energy production by 2030, ensuring at least 15% of the country's energy balance from renewable sources, Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan said./pp ‘Renewable energy is one of Armenia's key priorities. With 270 sunny days a year, our country can make solar energy a central part of its energy strategy. Switching to clean energy reduces our dependence on fossil fuels and reduces also greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to sustainable development,’ Simonyan said, speaking at the discussions on the margins of the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.nbsp;nbsp;/pp

According to him, science and technology play an important role in improving Armenia's resource management and reducing the risks associated with climate change./pp ‘Progress in these fields offers solutions to our problems, from increasing agricultural productivity to improving the fight against natural disasters,’ Simonyan said./pp

The parliament speaker also said Armenia is committed to reducing carbon emissions, conserving resources and encouraging environmental responsibility./pp

According to Armenian National Statistical Committee, in January-August this year, the volume of electricity generated by solar power plants totalled 706.4 million kWh with an increase of 31.3 per cent year-on-year, accounting for 11.6 per cent of the total volume. -0-/pp nbsp;/p
