Salman Khan-Rashmika in Sikandar to Hrithik-Kiara in War 2: 8 fresh on-screen pairs to look forward in 2025

Actor-model Rohman Shawl recently appeared in the film Amaran. It dropped on Netflix and the audience was marvelled with its story and performances. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, the Tamil-language action thriller also stars SivaKarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi. Rohman plays the role of Asif Wani in the war film and he stood out with his impeccable act.

BollywoodLife's Pooja Darade asked Rohman Shawl about the movie, his career transition from modelling to acting and much more. When asked if being a pan-India film of this stature felt like a pressure to him, Shawl answered, "Starting my movie career with a feature film of such a big scale is the best thing that has happened to me as an actor!! It left me with no time to consider the advantages and disadvantages; I was forced to perform at my highest level due to the high stakes and the exceptional performance of those around me."

Read the excerpts from the interview with Rohman Shawl below:

Kamal Haasan praised your performance as Asif Wani. Could you share what he said and how it felt to receive such recognition?

My director, Mr. Rajkumar, told me that Kamal sir has really liked my performance! I haven't been able to meet him yet but it will be great if I get to hear it from him personally someday.

You dedicated two years solely to Amaran without taking on any other projects. What motivated that decision?

I had a particular look that I was asked to carry for the film by my director. The filming of Amaran kept happening in intervals, & it got delayed after a bit, so to maintain continuity, I had to keep the look! Everything else at that time that was being offered to me required me to be in a different look (short hair & beard), so I kept saying no because I believed in Amaran & knew it would do wonders for me. Touchwood, the call that I took has paid off so well, & I am grateful to God that people have loved my work in Amaran. It's overwhelming to receive so many messages & calls from strangers & close ones praising you about your work. It's a heavy load off my chest for now because it was a huge call to take.

How was your experience working alongside Siva Karthikeyan and Sai Pallavi?

Although I did not have any scenes with Sai Pallavi, I am a fervent admirer of her acting. Siva sir is simply superb; the ease that he brings on the set is so addictive; I really admire him for that!

Transitioning from modelling to acting can be an interesting journey. Did you find it challenging, or was it a smooth shift for you?

To be true, I had never thought of becoming an actor. My love for modelling was pretty strong as I started my career in 2013. It was only after my manager challenged me to shift to Mumbai and prove myself that I moved here. Mumbai was all about acting, and that's when I auditioned for a film and got selected. It kept hanging for a couple of months, and then one day they just said something has changed and they will let me know. That call never came, and it only made me run away from movies more.

It wasn't until 2021 that I thought about getting back to acting and signed my first short film, Azaadi. While shooting that, I realised that I was running away from something I really enjoy. With My Father's Doctor & now Amaran, I have totally stepped into the field of acting, and I hope to leave a mark here too.
