Zelio Enters E-Rickshaw Market with Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS

Zelio Ebikes, a prominent name in India’s electric two-wheeler market, has taken a bold step into the e-rickshaw segment with the launch of its first three-wheeler models—the Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS. Starting at ₹1.45 lakh and ₹1.40 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.

Performance and Features

Both models are powered by a 1200W motor paired with a 48/60V 135Ah Eastman battery, offering a range of 100 km on a single charge. A top speed of 30 km/h ensures smooth, efficient commutes, while an 8-hour charging time makes them convenient for daily use. For safe and reliable charging, both vehicles are equipped with an SMPS charger with voltage fluctuation protection.

Zelio has prioritized rider and passenger safety by including advanced braking systems. A front lever-operated drum brake and a rear paddle-operated drum brake, along with a mechanical parking brake, ensure stability and control. Comfort features like telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers in the front and leaf spring shockers at the rear promise a smoother ride.

Design and Durability

The Tanga Butterfly features a mild steel (MS) construction, while the Tanga SS uses stainless steel (SS) for enhanced durability. Both models are built on a high-rigidity monocoque frame, making them resilient and long-lasting.

Their compact dimensions—2690 mm in length, 1000 mm in width, and 200 mm ground clearance—make them ideal for navigating narrow urban streets. Customers also have a wide range of color options:

• Tanga Butterfly: Red, Grey, White, Sky Blue, Military Green
• Tanga SS: Blue, Red, Sea Blue, Parrot Green, Grey

Both e-rickshaws are loaded with practical features, including:

• Wide front glass with a wiper

• Digital meter and central locking
• LED headlamps with DRL and indicators
• Heavy curtains for privacy
  Additional accessories include a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and tool kit, ensuring safety and utility on the road.

Affordable Financing and Dealer Network

To make these vehicles accessible, Zelio has partnered with AKASHA and TRY Wheels to offer easy financing options. The company also plans to expand its dealership network from 273 to 400 outlets by March 2025, ensuring robust support for customers across India.
