RA MFA: Armenia joins  Board of Peace  without mandatory membership  fee

ArmInfo. Armenia has signed the Peace Council Charter on a fee-free basis, as reported by Ani Badalyan, spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  She was commenting on discussions about  the requirement to pay a $1 billion membership fee to join the Board of Peace.

In response to a request from the state-run news agency Armenpress, Badalyan stated that the Board of Peace Charter provides for membership on a voluntary basis  of financial contributions. "A country invited by US President Trump can become a member of the Board without a clearly defined membership fee for a period of  up to three years, which is subject to review in accordance with the established procedure after the expiration of this period. The Armenian government has approved membership in the Board on these grounds. The membership fee you refer to is voluntary and is applicable to the organization if, within one year after the charter enters into force, a request for permanent membership is submitted," Badalyan said.
