SCHC win Dutch women’s indoor title

SCHC claimed their second Dutch indoor hockey title on Sunday after defeating Rotterdam in a dramatic final decided by a shootout.

The teams were level at 2-2 after forty tense minutes, with Lana Kalse scoring the decisive shootout goal.

Rotterdam struck first in the ninth minute through Isis van der Kooij who powered a shot in from the left.

Despite the Bilthoven club creating most of the early chances, goalkeeper Olivia van der Knaap repeatedly kept them out, denying efforts from Mette Winter, Lotte Ruts, Kalse, and Zandee.

At the other end, SCHC keeper Marsha Zwezereijn prevented Van der Kooij from doubling the lead and Winter cleared a backhand attempt from Emma van Santbrink off the line. Rotterdam briefly thought they had scored again, but a penalty corner effort was disallowed.

SCHC pressed hard after the break, earning multiple penalty corners but Van der Knaap continued to stand firm. Rotterdam threatened on the counter but couldn’t find a second goal.

Six minutes from time, Ruts punished a turnover and equalised with a solo run but there was plenty of late drama to follow. SCHC missed a penalty stroke and Rotterdam immediately made it 2-1 through Merel Boekhorst.

Yet with 30 seconds left, Kalse forced the 2-2 equaliser and then she was the player left at the end to score the vital shoot-out and seal the title for the club.
