Trump awards Connor Hellebuyck the Presidential Medal of Freedom
By Seema Mehta, Tribune News Service President Donald Trump on Tuesday awarded Team USA’s hockey goalie Connor Hellebuyck the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. The American team won the Olympic gold medal on Sunday, the first time in 46 years, occurring on the anniversary of the team’s legendary triumph over the USSR known as the “Miracle on Ice.” They won in a 2-1 overtime game over Canada, with Hellebuyck’s performance widely lauded throughout the tournament.
