A police officer and a prisoner are on the run in Texas: yep, that’s basically the premise of Warner Bros. comedy “Hot Pursuit.” But instead of mismatched pairs like Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte or Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker the script is flipped with a little estrogen. Directed by Anne Fletcher ("The Proposal," "27 Dresses"), “Hot Pursuit” pits the anal and controlling Reese Witherspoon (her production company is named Type A) against the hot and spicy Sofia Vergara. And while Witherspoon has revitalized her career with dramatic roles and a Academy Award nomination for “Wild,” she’s obviously not afraid to get silly at times.
The official log-line doesn’t provide many deeper details, but here they are: An uptight and by-the-book cop (Reese Witherspoon) tries to protect the sexy and outgoing widow (Sofia Vergara) of a drug boss as they race through Texas pursued by crooked cops and murderous gunmen.
