Komi court sentenced two Shies defenders for blocking the road to fuel trucks

On October 3, Ust-Vymsky district court sentenced Oleg Lyzhin, an activist from Zheshart township of the Komi Republic, to 20 hours of community service under Article 20.2.2 of the Code of administrative offences of the Russian Federation («Organization of mass gathering of citizens in public places resulting in violation of public order»). On October 4, the same court pronounced a similar sentence to Artyom Ermakov, an activist from the village of Yarensk in Arkhangelsk Oblast, and fined him for 500 rubles under article 19.3 of the Administrative Code ("Failure to Follow a Lawfull Order of a Police Officer"). On August 27, these activists blocked the road to fuel trucks carrying fuel to the landfill under construction near the station of Shies in Arkhangelsk Oblast.

Ernest Mezak, a lawyer at the Public Verdict Foundation, defended the activists in court. On his page on vk.com, he called the judge "a Kremlin official in a black dress" and pointed out that his conviction violated several provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights.

On August 27, near the village of Madmas, activists blocked the road to two fuel trucks, which, in their opinion, were carrying fuel to the construction site. On August 28, police officers drew up administrative reports against four activists. On September 4, the police drew up a report for administrative violation of public order against another activist.

In total, according to activists, twenty people are charged with administrative cases on the "case of fuel trucks". On September 12, Ust-Vymsky district court considered one of them and did not punish the activist Artyom Shevelev. The activist suggested that the judge's decision was influenced by errors in the report and active defense position at the court session.

As reported in community "Committee of the Vychegda Protection", police reports on the activists were filed by the driver of the truck and representative of the landfill constructing company Technopark Maxim Lodygin.

It became known that the Technopark Company had begun the construction of the landfill for Moscow garbage at station Shies in Lensky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast in the summer of 2018. Residents of the Komi Republic and Arkhangelsk Oblast are holding protests against the construction, organize all-Russian protest actions, and in December 2018, they organized a round-the-clock watch at the construction site.
