The Petrozavodsk court rejected defense’s motion to conduct a re-examination in the case of researcher of Stalin's terror Yuri Dmitriev
Lawyer Viktor Anufriev filed a petition for examination four and a half months ago — judge Alexander Markov considered it only on October 31. According to Anufriev, the court did not consider it necessary to request additional expertise.
At the same meeting, the court questioned the head of the Returned Names Center Anatoly Razumov as a witness.
— I’m not supposed to judge about how it all passed — I answered questions, I believe, that judge Merkov acted with respect. I frankly said everything I could say, — Anatoly Razumov told "7x7".
The case is considered behind closed doors, so the participants of the process cannot tell the details.
Yuri Dmitriev dedicated many years to researching Stalin's terror and searching for the names of the repressed and the burial place of the executed victims of Stalin's terror. He participated in the expedition to find the missing transportees from the Solovetsky Islands, was one of those who discovered Sandarmokh.
He was first arrested on December 13, 2016 and accused of making pornographic images of his adopted daughter. In April 2018, the Petrozavodsk court acquitted Dmitriev, but in June of the same year, the Supreme court of Karelia canceled this decision.
He was detained for a second time on June 27, 2018 on charges of "the violence of a sexual nature against a minor". At the request of lawyer Viktor Anufriev, the court treated two cases as linked.
