The Letter" is about a guy who gets a letter from his former love telling him that she wants him back, and the guy wants to fly out and see her immediately. The line "Give me a ticket for an aeroplane" was given by The Nashville songwriter Wayne Carson Thompson father.
Though under two minutes in length, it was an international hit by September 1967, reaching Billboard's number–one position. Also a number–one position in Canada and a number–three peak in The Netherlands
