Over half a million Armenians visit Georgia in summer

Armenians make up the majority of foreigners traveling to Georgia this past summer season- a total of 512,000 people, according to Georgia’s National Department of Tourism.

YEREVAN, September 9. / ARKA /. Armenians make up the majority of foreigners traveling to Georgia this past summer season- a total of 512,000 people, according to Georgia’s National Department of Tourism. 

According to official figures, the number of Armenian tourists visiting Georgia in summer increased by 21.5% from the same time span of 2014.

In June, 111,800 Armenian tourists visited Georgia, 180,000 did so in July and 220,100 in August. Overall, Georgia hosted 3,922,376 international visitors during the first eight months of 2015. The number is 219,699 (or 6%) more than the figure from the same period of the previous year. 

With a total of 944,029 visitors to Georgia, Armenians make up the majority of foreign travelers, up from 825,344, or 14% more than in the same period of last year. They are followed by Azerbaijanis, (464,300) Turks (435,400), Russians (390,000) and Ukrainians (51,400).

According to the 2015 report of World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), the direct contribution of Travel & Tourism to the Georgian GDP in 2014 was GEL 1.726.4 bn (5.9% of the GDP). This is forecast to rise by 4.2% to GEL 1.798.7 bn in 2015. -0-
