Watch: 2 New Trailers For Todd Haynes' Oscar Contender 'Carol' With Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara
Is Todd Haynes about to finally be accepted by the Oscars? The filmmaker, a boundary-pushing pioneer of New Queer Cinema, has had brushes with the awards season before, with a few nods for “Far From Heaven” and one for “I’m Not There.” But “Carol” looks to be something else altogether.
The director’s adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s “The Price Of Salt” has the might of the Weinstein Company behind it, and debuted at Cannes to rave reviews (including ours) and a Best Actress trophy for Rooney Mara, who plays a young department store employee who falls in love with the titular older woman (Cate Blanchett).
Kyle Chandler, Jake Lacy and Sarah Paulson also star, and with the film in the midst of festival season — it’s skipping TIFF, but heading to NYFF — a pair of new trailers have arrived, one from the Weinsteins in the U.S, the other from StudioCanal in the UK.
