Since the peak seen in January 2013, the cumulative decline in the OECD unemployment rate was 1.3 percentage points.

Across the OECD area, 41.6 million people were unemployed in July, 7.3 million less than in January 2013.

The unemployment rate slid 0.2 percentage point to 10.9 percent in July. Italy logged the biggest fall in the region, down 0.5 percentage point to 12 percent.

The jobless rate was stable at 6.8 percent in Canada and at 5.3 percent in the U.S. he youth unemployment rate dropped to 14 percent in July from 14.3 percent in June. The rate fell to 21.9 percent in the euro area. -0-
