Chuck Chiang: Korean Peninsula retreats from summer tensions

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have eased following an intense August during which a fatal landmine explosion in the Demilitarized Zone between the North and the South triggered an exchange of artillery fire. Last Tuesday, both Seoul and Pyongyang agreed to allow reunions in October for families separated by the Korean War. The reunions will involve 100 people — mostly elderly Koreans who found themselves on opposite sides of the border when the fighting ended in 1953.
