Eurasian Economic Commission simplifies import of vehicles into EEU’s territory
The Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the executive body of the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), has revised its previous decision on temporary importation of vehicles for personal use into the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union’s member states extending the permission from the current 3 to 6 months for EEU citizens.
The decision that comes into force on September 19 will simplify the stay of motorists in EEU territory, the Board said today.
Earlier, if a motorist failed to meet the 3-month permission regardless of the reasons, the motorist was to pay customs duties and some other taxes, which in some cases could amount to the cost of a car. Besides, motorists were subject to administrative penalties, set by the host country.
The Board said the period of temporary importation should be established for every case separately, depending on the length of stay of citizens in the territory of the Union, with maximum period being six months for EEU citizens and 12 months for citizens of other countries.
In addition, the decision of the Board provides that even with an expired temporary importation (but no more than the maximum period), motorists can take the vehicle out of the host country without payment of customs duty.-0-
