Bulgaria Unveils Architectural Theme Park Project

Bulgaria has launched a project to promote its architectural heritage both domestically and abroad.

The project called Bulgaria in Miniature – Scale Models in the Open Air will feature 130 scale models of actual historical buildings located both within and outside the country.

The models in 1:25 scale will be displayed on an area of two hectares in the municipality of Pravets, about an hour drive from Sofia. The park itself will resemble Bulgaria’s geographical map.

The main objective of the project is to show Bulgaris’s architectural heritage to domestic and foreign visitors, promote sustainable tourism development as well as show in a nutshell the country’s natural, historical and cultural landmarks.

The project, developed under the patronage of Bulgaria’s National Commission to UNESCO, was unveiled in Sofia on Wednesday. It is expected to be completed in 2018 when Bulgaria will hold the rotating EU presidency (July-December) and before the city of Plovdiv becomes a European capital of Culture for 2019.
