Harutyunyan sees no reason for unifying wine and brandy producers' associations

YEREVAN, September 18. /ARKA/. Avag Harutyunyan, the head of the Association of Winemakers of Armenia finds unification with the Association of Brandy Producers not reasonable.

He told journalists on Friday that if the two associations were in equal conditions and enjoyed the same legal or financial and economic status, their unification into one powerful organization would be desirable.

«But today producers of wine and brandy are in different leagues either in output volumes or in profitability and numbers of employees,» he said.

Harutyunyan said that the two organizations have different problems and their solutions are different as well.

Nevertheless, he said, the two associations will meet soon in a bid to generalize opinions of all the sides.

«The greater is the number of nongovernmental organizations in the country the better,» he said. «This contributes to democracy, pluralism and expansion of room. Nongovernmental organizations don't emerge or vanish at somebody's request or demand.»

Speaking Wednesday at a joint session of the two associations, Armenian Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan proposed to unite the associations to enhance effectiveness of their activity.  ---0----
