President visits Kotayk region to see new apple and walnut orchards

YEREVAN, September 19. / ARKA /. Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan visited Saturday the central Kotayk province to see newly-planted apple and walnut orchards run by Caucasus Food company, his press service said.

These orchards are expected to secure very high yield, and this experience can be extended to other regions of the country, the press service said.

The president was told about development programs of the company that has already invested 700 million drams in this venture and is planning to invest another 200 million drams in 2016-2018.

The company has leased 9.2 hectares of land for apple orchards and 20 hectares for walnut trees. It uses the latest technology to run the orchards, including automated drip irrigation and hail protection systems.

The trees were planted in the spring of 2015 and the first crop of apples is expected in four years (40 tons per 1 ha), and that of walnuts in seven years (7 tons per 1 ha).

The company will hire from 30 to 50 people for seasonal work with wages 120,000-150,000 drams. The average salary of ten permanent employees is 150,000 drams.  ($ 1 - 478.99 drams). -0-
