Armenia’s exporters should work more transparently to get larger room for building up their exports

YEREVAN, September 19. /ARKA/. Armenia's exporters should work more transparently to get a larger room for building up their exports, Vardan Bostanjyan, an economist, told journalists on Saturday.

According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, Armenia's exports to Russia shrank 42% in Jan-July 2015 to $107.2 million against $164.6 million in the same period a year before.

Analysts say this happened because of the Russian economy's troubles and devaluation of the Russian ruble.

Bostanjyan said Armenian exports were sent to Russia also before, but not the entire volumes of the exported commodities underwent obligatory procedures.

«After Armenia joined the Eurasian Economic Union, all the exports undergo mandatory registration, and Armenian exporters are trying to avoid this, as they used to do before, and exports are shrinking despite neither supply market nor demand are changed,» he said.

The economist finds his approach unacceptable and advises exporters to make their activities transparent and to comply with all tax requirements. This will let them build up their exports and occupy a more significant market niche. ---0----
