Armenia and German province of Saxony-Anhalt deepen ties
YEREVAN, September 23. / ARKA /. Armenian ministers of culture and education and science Hasmik Poghosyan and Armen Ashotyan respectively and Stefan Dorgerlo, minister of culture and education of the German Saxony-Anhalt province signed a memorandum of understanding today in Yerevan to deepen cooperation in the fields of education and culture.
The memorandum provides for the mutual Days of Culture in Armenia and Saxony-Anhalt, promotion of cooperation in the sphere of museums, archeology, restoration and preservation of monuments, as well as other spheres of culture and education.
Minister Dorgerlo was awarded today the gold medal of the Armenian ministry of culture for his contribution to the development of the Armenian-German cultural ties and promotion of Armenian art in Germany.
"Mr. Dorgerlo spares no effort to raise Armenian-German cultural ties in education and other areas to a new level", said Poghosyan, when handing the medal..
Education Minister Armen Ashotyan pointed out introduction of in-depth certified study of the German language in Armenian schools as well as exchange programs, involving students, teachers and school principals.
He particularly singled out a school genocide manual published in Germany for the first time, two chapters of which are devoted to the Armenian Genocide.
The German minister also praised the cooperation between Armenia and Saxony-Anhalt, especially in the field of culture. He said an exhibition of photos from Germany, as well as a concert of German musicians who will perform works by Komitas will be held in Yerevan.
The German delegation is visiting Armenia from 22 to 27 September.-0-
