Lavrov to focus on implementation of trilateral agreements during his visit to Azerbaijan
YEREVAN, June 22. /ARKA/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay special attention to the implementation of trilateral Armenian-Russian-Azerbaijani agreements when he meets with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku this week, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said today.
"Special attention will be paid to the implementation of the trilateral agreements, signed by the leaders of the three countries on November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021,' Zakharova said, recalling that the agreements are designed to ensure the normalization of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations and turn the South Caucasus into a zone of peace, stability and prosperity.
Lavrov will be on a working visit to Azerbaijan on June 23-24.
On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and phosphorus weapons.
After 44 days of the war, on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities. According to the document, the town of Shushi, the districts of Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin were handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.
A Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. -0-
