Russia Informs Turkey about Turkish Airspace Violation, PM Davutoglu Says

Moscow has informed Ankara via diplomatic channels about a violation of Turkey’s airspace by a Russian warplane, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said, according to TASS.

"We had diplomatic contacts in connection with the incident. Our position is clear: if anyone violates our borders or airspace, they get a warning from us in a friendly way. Russia is our neighbor and friend," the Russian news agency quoted Davutoglu as telling the Haber Turk TV channel on Monday.

Russia has pledged that it won’t allow such incidents to take place again, he added.

The Turkish Prime Minister also said that the Syrian crisis is not a Turkish-Russian crisis.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said earlier on Monday that a Russian warplane violated the country’s airspace in the southern district of Yayladagi, in the province of Hatay on Saturday.

Russia would verify the information about the reported violation of the Turkish airspace, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.
