Ordinary Canadians deserve to pat themselves on the back for their country’s compassionate response to the Vietnamese boat people crisis, historians say. Canada, after all, resettled some 69,000 Vietnamese following the fall of Saigon to North Vietnamese forces 40 years ago in the spring.
