Ministry promises to help sell the entire grape harvest
YEREVAN, October 9. / ARKA /. Armenian ministry of agriculture has promised today to do everything possible to ensure that the entire harvest of grape grown by local winegrowers be procured by wineries and other processing companies.
Deputy minister Garnik Petrosyan said minister Sergo Karapetyan had visited processing enterprises in Ararat and Armavir regions yesterday, which agreed to purchase additional volume of the crop.
'Companies must cooperate with the ministry and local communities and try to carry out procurement in accordance with the established schedule", Petrosyan said.
The deputy minister said at the end of September unfavorable weather conditions caused a new wave of concern among farmers, who feared they would not be able to sell their crops completely.
"Now the situation is quite calm. A few days ago we asked the processing companies not to hurry with the completion of the procurement process, and extend it up to October 25, as it used to be in the past.
Minster Karapetyan said earlier Armenian enterprises purchased 180,000 tons of grapes of the total 245,000 tons.-0-
