Boks’ special effort for their driver
Greg Levendahl has been driving the Springboks’ bus in South Africa for eight seasons.
|||After watching two of South Africa’s Rugby World Cup Pool B victories in England, Springbok bus driver Greg Levendahl, 62, said he was coming home knowing that Heyneke Meyer and his team would do well from now on.
Levendahl, who has been driving the Springboks’ bus in South Africa for eight seasons, supported the Boks in their matches against Scotland and the US.
It was his first trip abroad, made possible by the players through their internal team fund, the South African Rugby Union and the Springbok team’s management, all of whom contributed.
Levendahl, whose nickname is “Getuie”, Afrikaans for witness, is a firm favourite with all the players.
He said it had been wonderful to spend time with them in England.
“I enjoyed every moment. The players really inspired me and I think they enjoyed having me here.
“My message to them is that everyone in South Africa is united behind the team and they must bring the World Cup back home.
“It’s been a massive honour for me to be able to be here and I want to thank every one of them for making this possible.”
Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer said the players had enjoyed having him with them.
“He has driven the team tens of thousands of kilometres across South Africa over several seasons, always with a huge smile – and has truly become one of the team.” – ANA
