Johannesburg – Evidence that was brought to the court against former radio presenter Donald “Donald Duck” Sebolai was read out in the High Court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Judge Cassim Moosa read what Sebolia was being accused of and charged for in detail to the court.

Sebolia, who was a radio presenter at Soweto-based community radio station, Jozi FM, is accused of stabbing to death his girlfriend Dolly Tshabalala last year.

“The accused pleaded not guilty of these charges and stated that he acted in self defence,” Moosa read.

Moosa went on to read out evidence from various witnesses who had testified during the case.

A constable who went to the murder scene stated that he saw Tshabalala on the bed covered with a blanket, Moosa read.

“He removed the blanket that was covering her, she had no clothes on the upper body. There was blood on the bed and pelvic area,” Moosa read.

Moosa stated that the constable said he saw a wound on the top of the vaginal area as well as a mop behind the door that had blood on it and a knife on the table.

Moosa read out evidence that was given by Tshabalala’s mother regarding the relationship between Sebolia and her daughter.

“The mother of deceased stated that the deceased was married and had an eight-year-old daughter but was separated from her husband,” Moosa read.

Tshabalala’s mother said she heard Sebolia on radio talking about women and child abuse and her daughter would comment about him and later told her that she was in a relationship with him, Moosa read.

More evidence from other witnesses was read to the court.

Moosa read out evidence that showed that Sebolia and Tshabalala had had an abusive relationship and that she had opened a number of cases of assault against Sebolia.

“The accused asked for forgiveness in order for her to drop the case against him,” Moosa read. “The accused admitted to hitting Tshabalala in the face but denied giving her a bloody nose.”

Moosa read evidence from five witnesses before adjourning.
