Parliament member calls for interest-free loans to farmers
YEREVAN, October 13. / ARKA /. An Armenian parliament member called on the government today to look into all the possible resources to make interest-free loans available to farmers.
Speaking to a news conference, Levon Khachatryan from the Prosperous Armenia party, cited the latest statistical data which say that the agriculture is becoming the driving force behind GDP growth.
"Very soon agriculture will be playing a decisive role in shaping the budget. Therefore, not only the ministry of agriculture, but also the ministry of economy, other government agencies as well as regional authorities must convene to address this problem,’ he said.
Speaking about the procurement of grapes, the MP said wineries and other processing enterprises had bought already 194,000 metric tons of grapes, but in some communities farmers are forced to sell the grape at a low price, and they have no other choice.
In turn, Lernik Alexanyan, MP from the Republican Party of Armenia, said many processing enterprises are short of financial resources to pay for grape. -0-
