4.7% average year-on-year inflation in Armenia in Jan-Sep
Average year-on-year inflation in Armenia stood at 4.7% in Jan-Sept 2015, Gurgen Martirosyan, chief of the National Statistical Service’s price and international comparison division, told journalists on Wednesday.
In his words, food prices rose 4.6% in Jan-Sept 2015, compared with the same period a year earlier, nonfoods went 5.9% up and services 3.2%.
Martirosyan said that the highest inflation in these nine months was recorded in January.
In January, compared with the previous month, prices jumped 2.5%, and over a period between February and July a 4.6% deflation was recorded in the country.
«In August and September, inflation stood at 0.1% as food prices remained unchanged in September, compared with August,» he said.
Five of the 13 food groups under the statistical service’s review showed a 0.3 – 3.5% price rise in September, compared with the previous month, while eight showed a 1.7 – 0.1% decrease.
In particular, vegetable and potatoes rose 3.5%, dairy products 0.3%, fish products 0.4%, soft drinks 1.7% and other products 1.9% in September, compared with August.
Fruits fell 1.7%, eggs 1.4%, sugar 0.6%, bread 0.3% and meat products 0.3%.
Prices for services remained unchanged in September, compared with August, while nonfoods rose 0.6%.
«Quarterly review shows a 2.3% inflation in the first quarter, a 2.3 deflation in the second quarter and a 2-percent deflation in the third quarter,» Martirosyan said.
He said that a 0.1% price rise in August and September and further increase in prices agricultural products will drive inflation rate up.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, a12-month inflation in the country was recorded at 3.3% in September.
